“I came.....I saw…..I stayed.” This will be your sentiments when visiting Orchard Mountain. This community is a nature lover’s paradise and is located at the end of a secluded paved country mountain road cul-de-sac. Surrounded by indescribable landscapes of large tracts of undeveloped land, Orchard Mountain is located in the western corner of North Carolina, away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, yet convenient enough to access them. It is a peaceful place to relax while enjoying some of the most spectacular scenery year round. People say this area is only two hours from anywhere. Conveniently, it's less than 150 miles from Atlanta, Knoxville, and Asheville. This residential community is designed for and welcomes the second-home owner aimed squarely at environmentally oriented baby boomers, many of them who have primary residences in close proximity. Andrews, the nearest town, is located 20 minutes away and is a beautiful, peaceful small town within the heart of North Carolina's Great Smoky Mountains. With it’s 5,000 plus foot runway, Andrews will soon be a commuter airport. This beautiful city offers thriving small businesses, including restaurants, retail shops, bed and breakfast inns, artists' galleries and gift shops, much like the renowned destination of Sylva, NC. Nature lovers and the athletically inclined can enjoy many outdoor activities in the area's unspoiled streams, rivers, mountains, trails and ridges. Including boating & fishing on Lake Nantahala, hiking on the Appalachian Trail, world-class trout fishing, rafting & kayaking on the Nantahala River which was the practice course for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and is ongoing training grounds for competitive whitewater athletes. The Nantahala River and Reservoir are located in Macon and Swain counties. The Nantahala reservoir as well as the river attracts anglers from all over the country. This area supports a wide variety of outdoor activities including whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, fishing, fly fishing, hiking, camping and photography. State-approved gambling is 50 minutes away on the Cherokee Indian Reservation and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is contiguous to the North of there. The Blue Ridge Parkway and the Tail of the Dragon portion of US-129 North of Robbinsville are renowned driving roads for sports car and motorcycle enthusiasts. This is an area where cabin and vacation rentals flourish (and actually cash flow) and where baby boomers come to play, relax and decompress. They do not have the same requirements as an older, retired demographic which looks more closely at amenities such as healthcare facilities, flatter, lower-elevation terrain and closer proximity to towns. Murphy, 45 minutes to the west, was 8th in Forbes Magazine’s “Top Ten Most Desirable Second Home Locations” issue.
There are 8 lots in Orchard Mountain and the lot sizes are 1-2 acres depending on grade, access and soil conditions. The current market for lots such as these was $30-$125,000 (currently depressed) for comparable lots in quality communities. Land elevations rise from 3,100’ to 4,370’ above sea level.
